Choosing a shape
Why the half-circle mallet.
The half-circle mallet sits between the blade and the fang. The weight is carried back and around the head instead of behind the ball, which settles the face on off-centre strikes without putting a big footprint behind your hands — and it gives you a longer sight line to aim with. It suits a stroke that travels mostly straight with a little arc, and it is the usual first stop for a blade player moving to a mallet.
